The Doors
The Doors
Elektra 74007-2 (242 012)
made in ?? for the US market; I am guessing it was made in the US
color scheme: silver paint background with red reticle and black lettering
genre: rock
LP originally released in 1967

No manufacturer on disc. The matrix info is exactly the same as the
West German pressings. My belief is the same stampers were used in the US
to test the new equipment in the first PDO plant in the US. The lack of a MADE IN
statement, the US inserts, the lack of the GEMA logo, and the wrong target color
combination point out, to me, that this disc was most likely pressed in small
quantities in the US. I could be wrong. More information would be appreciated.
Matrix number: 7559 74007-2 2893 222 01
Known suffixes: CU X, HA, [BQ]
No major variations are known.

Front cover of the eight-page booklet
Page seven states "Printed in U.S.A." Note the Gold Record Award seal. This seal was removed when the remastered
version was released in the late 1980s. On the latest remaster, it has reappeared.
Note also that there is a catalog number (EKS-74007) and the word, "stereo" in
parentheses above the Elektra logo. This will be found on the Japanese and US
inserts only. The West German inserts have this information airbrushed out.
This US insert, like the Japanese insert, is an eight page stapled booklet,
unlike the West German six-page fold-out booklet.

Rear tray insert, "Printed in U.S.A." with barcode and new Elektra logo.
Nothing is printed on the reverse.
Note that "Printed in U.S.A" is in a different typeface than the rest of the
lettering. When searching for this disc, look for the Gold Record Award on the
front with the USA inserts.
Only rear inlay known to contain this USA target CD.

Notes: This target CD is scarce, but a number of copies have surfaced in recent years.
